Hotels and hostels
from Nate in the General section:[/b:f8e53a1c31]
Hello. I’m (Nate) one of the other STAPLE! organizers.
I pulled up a page of hotels in the area.
Hope that works.
The only problem with having the event so close to downtown is the price of the nearest hotels. There is, however, also a hostel http://www.hiaustin.org/about a mile from the event location. At $19.75 a night, it should leave you plenty of cash to blow downtown and at the event.
Hope some of that info helps!

hey, dad!
i think it would be funny to give out my dad’s address and tell people to just show up at his house. he’d be so mad! and i’d be sitting there just LARFING like crazy every time the doorbell rang. yuk yuk.

The link only goes to the main Orbitz page. Could you name a few hotels in the area, how far they are from the site, and how far the airport is?
thanks!

are driving directions from the airport to the venue.
Most major hotels will have a shuttle from the airport – but you’ll want to check to be sure when making your reservations.
Also anyone planning to come from out of town should feel free to use this forum to coordinate with fellow travelers. Split hotel rooms, share a cab or rental car. Everythings easier if we work together.

Some other hotels to consider are the Austin Motel (standard $80/night) and the San Jose Hotel (standard $150/night). These two are very close to the event—a 3 minute drive to the Lodge according to MapQuest. They have more character than the big chain hotels and are located in the hip, fun South Congress neighborhood, if you’re into that sort of thing. They’re walking distance to restaurants and shops and probably a $5 cab ride to/from Sixth Street.

I’ve stayed in the Homestead Guest Studios and they really are very nice, especially for the price. I spent a 4 day weekend there for my birthday one year before I moved to Austin permenantly. It’s, what I have seen of it, a clean, well kept place. The kitchen also saves a lot of food expenses and they take pets. All in all its a pretty good stay for not much money. Plus, like it was mentioned before. It is very close to the venue, Downtown, and the S. Congress neighborhood.
