DEAD LANDS AT SPEAKEASY[/b:6a99b8b0e7] June 2 2005, Toronto, Canada—Wicker Man Studios is proud to announce its new title Half Dead, a five-issue mini-series being published by Speakeasy Comics in early 2006. Half Dead will be written by Barb Lien-Cooper and Park Cooper, with pencils and inks by Jimmy Bott, colors by Wesley Wong, letters by Charles Pritchett and covers by Ted Wing III.
Combining the chills of modern horror with the excitement of cinematic action, Half Dead is the story of two conspiracies, human and vampire, fighting for control of London in the present day with gas attacks, soldiers, suicide options, religious icons, and inhuman science used by both sides to keep their pawns alive and fighting whether they want to or not. A ballerina, Romany, comes back from certain death changed into a form to which a clean death might have been preferable. She’s just one of a number of people manipulated into fighting a covered-up war they’d rather run from or die than try to win—sometimes the good guys can be at least as bad as the dark forces of evil.
Barb Lien-Cooper has been one of the founders of Eagle Award-winning comics website Sequential Tart, a comics reviewer and journalist, the managing editor of the 2004 Eisner Award-winning print magazine COMIC BOOK ARTIST, co-columnist with her husband Park Cooper at www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com, and more. With regular artist Ryan Howe, she was among the first creators at the website Graphic Smash to continue the exploration of the web comic medium with her critically-acclaimed comic GUN STREET GIRL, which continues there today.

Barb and Park collaborate with the fresh young art team of Jimmy (Government Bodies) Bott, newcomer colorist Wesley Wong, covers by the incredibly talented Ted Wing III, and with Speakeasy Comics. “This is a powerful line-up that brings a lot to the table,” said Adam Fortier, President of Speakeasy Comics. “This group not only knows how to make comics and tell good stories, but they know how to get the word out and promote the work. It’s a one-two punch that we’re happy to be a part of.” Half Dead promises to bring an extremely rounded comic book, delivering a quality story AND quality artwork—something you can really sink your teeth into.
HALF DEAD
plans to solicit orders in late December 2005/early January 2006.
