STAPLE! The Independent Media Expo 2008

As many if not all y’all already know, Chris Moreno created the Staple! mascot. The mascot needs a name!
How’s this: we’ll collect name entries for a week, then do a poll/vote of the names attracting the most attention. How’s that sound, Uncle Staple?
My own suggestion, liked by folks of discriminating taste: Staplegator

Cool! Thanks Gary for getting the ball rolling on this. I wanted to start it at the show but had too many other things going to get it together.

I think of this as more a brainstorming phase than a competition. Yes, the person who comes up with the name that’s voted best will earn the praise of the Staple! community, or at least a few comments like “Oh yeah, you were the one who thought of that . . . uh, good for you.” And that excitement might last a day or so.

But prizes? If by chance some name I suggested wins, then the first person to vote for it who isn’t me can get the prize. And you only get to vote once*, so make it count!
*Unless there’s a run-off. Voting theory is really nifty, and some folks won a Nobel Prize a while back proving that no voting system with more than two candidates can be perfectly fair, but . . . but hold, I digress.

For [b:242ffc2da3]one whole week[/b:242ffc2da3] the second place winner (a.k.a. first loser) will have the right to complain about how the second place name should have won, how much better the second place (a.k.a. losing) name was compared to the winning name, etc. After the week is up, no whining will be tolerated. Whiners will be stapled.
The third place winner (a.k.a. second loser) may get a Consolation Pat on the Back from Chris or Gary.
Certain persons may get a Consolation Hug from Gary or Chris whether the person’s name won or not, whether the person voted or not, or whether the person participated in the contest or not. (Gary will not be giving Consolution Hugs to males of any species, especially not elk males.)
*All stapling will be figurative rather than literal. Kids, don’t staple your friends. It’s mean and stupid and it’s already been done.
