Hey folks! Just want to let you know that the STAPLE! msg brd here is about to go away. All the content will be archived and still viewable but no new post or members will be allowed.
The reason for this is mother effing spambots. They register about fifty new fake accounts a day and yours truly cannot keep up with deleting them all. Just look at the memberlist. There’s 77 pages of it and only about 1.5 are legit. It only takes them like four minutes to do that and each one takes 9 hours to delete. Dang!
There are a few available solutions to this problem. The one we are choosing to implement is to move to a more blog/comment priented format that should be rolled out in the next week or so – right, Manton?
Anyway, he promises me it will be real spiffy and he hasn’t let me down so far.
Well, there was that one time…but we’d both been drinking a lot, y’know so, I…I really shouldn’t talk about it…forget I said anything. Nevermind, really. Forget it, I said!

I also use phpBB and got tons of comment spam for too long. The thing I did that stopped the spam was implement Kitten Auth (http://www.thepcspy.com/kittenauth)
I already required registration to post, and combining that with Kitten Auth (which requires that an actual person register and no bot program could) stopped all the comment spam.

If something gets installed to stop the spambots, and if there aren’t any for a week or two, I’m willing to spend some time deleting the fake users.
